Spatha from Nydam, 3rd-4th Century.

This magnificent sword is a replica of an original Roman sword found in Nydam Mose, an archaeological site located near Sønderborg, Denmark. The site was used as a sacrificial swamp between 240 and 480 AD, and numerous archaeological discoveries have been made there since the 18th century. During excavations carried out by Danish archaeologist Conrad Engelhardt between 1859 and 1863, not only the famous Nydam Boat was unearthed, but also a large number of weapons. Later, in 1989, the National Museum of Denmark resumed the excavation and found even more artifacts, including swords, spears, and javelins. Among these valuable finds is the original example of this sword, which is now part of the collection of the Archaeological Museum at Gottorf Castle in Schleswig, Germany.

This faithful reproduction of the late Roman sword features a blade approximately 74 cm long, with two grooves and blunt edges. The full tang of the blade is screwed to the pommel, and the wooden grip ensures a firm and comfortable grip. Both the flattened oval pommel and the guard are also made of wood.

The sword comes with a wooden and brown leather scabbard, equipped with a muzzle and buttstock. For easy carrying, the scabbard includes a practical wooden loop suitable for belts up to 5 cm wide.

This Roman sword is primarily intended as a collectible or decorative display piece. In addition to its value as a historical artifact, it is ideal as an accessory or prop to complete a costume or historical reenactment.
