This beautifully crafted oil lamp was created on a potter’s wheel in the same way as in ancient times. With the help of archaeological institutes, historical preservation agencies and museums, it was possible to reconstruct this ancient lamp. It is made of ochre clay that was fired at 1200°C, making it relatively durable.
It’s based on Hispano-Arabic exemplars found at almohad influenced territories in Spain. Dated from the 12th-13th Centuries. Decorated with geometrical motifs, red or black, using iron oxide or manganese.
It could be easily lit with any vegetable (or animal) oil, and using an organic wick.
Measurements: approx. 15 cm long.
Note: This lamp is a completely handmade item, hence all measurements, colors and decorations are approximated. All photos must be considered as a reference, not as an exact portrait of the product offered. Each piece is unique, so no claims will be accepted for these inaccuracies.
