Medieval Wooden Overshoes

39,95

These overshoes or pattens are hand-made with poplar wood with goat-leather straps.

These overshoes has been used in Europe mainly during the 14th and 15th centuries and many exemplars have reached our present day, although on Antiquity the romans used something similar to insulate from moisture and favor the adherence of conventional footwear. As time goes by it was an accessory which became on a main part of the fashion-conscious of the time, leaving behind its functionality, and it continued to be used for subsequent centuries.
On this late medieval design, the wood provided perfect insulation, keeping your feet warm and dry during winter or the rainy season, and the leather straps allowed attaching the overshoes to the conventional footwear.
