Decorated Vendel Helmet from Valsgärde

This Valsgärde Helmet is a highly detailed reproduction inspired by the spectacular helmets discovered in the famous boat graves at Valsgärde, near Uppsala, Sweden. With its rounded steel bowl, prominent nasal guard, richly decorated fittings and extensive mail aventail, it recreates the imposing appearance of a high-status warrior from the Vendel Period.

The helmet features elaborate Nordic-inspired decoration, including stylised animal and interlaced motifs, decorative reinforcing bands and brass fittings. The contrasting dark steel and blackened chainmail give this helmet an authentic and striking appearance.

Valsgärde is one of Scandinavia’s most important archaeological sites, particularly renowned for its richly furnished boat burials dating from the Vendel period. The helmets discovered there are among the most impressive examples of early medieval Scandinavian armour and demonstrate the strong cultural connections between Scandinavia and the Anglo-Saxon world.
