Wooden Spoon

Finely crafted cherry wood spoon.

Although today they are common utensils, spoons played a significant role in medieval life.

Spoons were used by both nobility and common people, although the material they were made of varied with time and social class. In the early Middle Ages, wooden or bone spoons were predominant until around the 11th century, when silver and pewter began to take their place. Silver spoons, a symbol of status and prestige, were frequently used in elite homes. However, wood was such a popular material that the design presented here has survived almost unchanged to this day.

Completely suitable for use, as it is treated with linseed oil.
