Faversham Cloisonné Anglo-Saxon Pendant – 7th Century Historical Replica

Discover this reproduction of an Anglo-Saxon cloisonné pendant, inspired by an exceptional find from King’s Field near Faversham, Kent, a region closely associated with Anglo-Saxon royalty.

The original, dating from AD 600–650, was crafted in gold with garnet and glass inlays using the prestigious cloisonné technique, a hallmark of elite Early Medieval jewellery.

This replica faithfully recreates the historical design, replacing the original garnets with red and white glass enamel. The original artefact is now preserved in the British Museum, London.

King’s Field at Faversham: A Remarkable Anglo-Saxon Royal Cemetery

The archaeological site of King’s Field, near Faversham in Kent, is one of the most important Anglo-Saxon cemeteries in England. Its discoveries reveal the wealth and artistic sophistication of the elite during the 6th and 7th centuries.

Among the finds are more than twenty gold and silver brooches decorated with garnets, alongside jewellery, a ring-sword, an Egyptian bowl, an ornate horse harness, and an exceptional collection of Anglo-Saxon glassware.

The richness of the graves suggests that Faversham was an important royal centre within the Kingdom of Kent. It is traditionally associated with King Æthelberht, who ruled between AD 560 and 616.

A key archaeological site for understanding the society, culture, and craftsmanship of Anglo-Saxon England.
