Bow fibula, replica of an original find from Kent, England. Dated from 6th-7th centuries.

Brooches very similar to this were used by west germanic cultures, as visigoths, merovingians or ostrogoths.

They were usually worn by women and were used to fasten opened tunics or “peplos”, which were fitted to the waist with a belt and hang from the shoulders with the aid of these closures.

 

This replica is handmade of bronze.

Measures: 6 x 3.3 cm.
