Axe from Gotland – Sharp Edge
Axe from Gotland – Sharp Edge
89,99 €
Axe based on the archaeological find from Gotland, Sweden. Dated on 9-10th century.
The bearded axe or skeggøx (from the Old Norse skegg for beard and øx for axe) enjoyed great popularity from the 6th. c. until the end of the Viking Age – both as a tool and as a weapon. Compared to the sword, it was not only easier, but also much cheaper to make and therefore the most prevalent weapon of the common people in early medieval Scandinavia.
The high-quality axe we offer here is based upon an archaeological piece found on the Swedish island of Gotland. The axe head is hand-forged from high carbon steel and mounted on a wooden shaft.
Please note that, as the edge is sharp and fully functional, this Gotlandic Viking axe is designed as a collector’s or decoration piece and not suited for combat reenactment!
