Merovingian Bow Fibula
Merovingian Bow Fibula
35.00 € – 42.00 €
Brooch or bow fibula, probably of Frankish origin from the Merovingian period. Dated in the 6th-7th centuries.
This reproduction, as the original piece on which it’s based, combines decoration with geometric patterns and the integration of zoomorphic elements. In this case, we can observe the five animal heads, arranged radially, that decorate the piece.
The original one was made of silver with a dark niello. This technique consisted of embedding in silver an enamel (usually black, made of silver and lead fused with sulfur) in slots or incisions made in the material.
For this reproduction we have chosen bronze, although a silver-plating is also possible to order.
Measures: 8.2 x 5 cm.
