Peened Germanic Shield Boss

Peened Germanic Shield Boss

Price range: 55,00 € through 65,00 €

This Germanic-style shield boss is based on several examples dating from the 5th to the 7th century. This conical design, featuring a button-shaped finial, was widely used by the Merovingians, Anglo-Saxons, Visigoths, and other peoples of the period.

Made from high-quality steel with a satin finish, the shield boss is far more than a decorative element: it is the structural heart of the shield, the piece that transforms a simple wooden board into an effective defensive weapon. Its deep, reinforced design provides several advantages:

  • Deflects blows more effectively, helping to protect the hand holding the shield.
  • Adds rigidity to the shield, as it worked as a structural element together with the grip.
  • Provides a firm and comfortable grip, thanks to the interior space that accommodates the warrior’s fist.
  • Authentically recreates the functionality and distinctive appearance of early medieval shields.

Dimensions:

  • Outer diameter: 17 cm
  • Inner diameter: 11.5 cm
  • Interior height: 8.5 cm
  • Overall height: 12 cm

Note: Installing the shield boss with nails may require cutting, bending, or riveting them with washers, which are not included.
