Vendel Pendant from Torslunda
Vendel Pendant from Torslunda
10.00 € – 12.00 €
This beautiful pendant is based on the decorative plates found in Torslunda, on the Swedish island of Öland.
These sheets were used to decorate helmets like those found in Vendel, Välsgarde or Sutton Hoo, and are dated from the Vendel period (6th and 7th centuries).
The image represents a warrior of the time armed with a spear and sword and protected by a helmet decorated with plaques and a boar-shaped cimera.
The plates were discovered during an excavation in 1870 and are exhibited in the Statens Historiska Museum.
Hand-made of bronze.
Measures: 3.5 x 1.8 cm.
